The Plastic Pipeline | About

Since 2019, the Wilson Center’s China Environment Forum (CEF) and Serious Games Initiative (SGI) have explored the lifecycle of ocean plastic pollution, from fossil fuel extraction to disposal. Through targeted policy research and dialogues with US and Asian experts, we identified a gap in the current fight against plastic waste—public education tools that better communicate and help people explore the complex factors driving--and the myriad of policies to reduce--plastic pollution.

In 2020, we launched a project to address the knowledge gap around plastic waste through one of the most successful educational outreach tools the Wilson Center has pioneered: serious games. The digital Plastic Pipeline game equips consumers and other key stakeholders with an understanding of the cradle-to-grave life cycle of plastics, their impact, and the ways the problem can be addressed.
